Austerlitz Shepherds is considered a small, home-based, breeder. This means we raise each litter exclusively in our home and we do not maintain a kennel for this purpose. Because our home is small and the huge amount of work required to raise a litter to our standards, there is often a rest period for us between litters. So you may find that there is nothing available when you first visit our website. While we try to produce at least two litters per year, there are times there may be a gap of a year or more between litters, or conversely as many as four litters may be produced in a year.
We recommend that you visit the website early in the calendar year you wish to add a puppy to your home. If you are hoping to add a puppy in 2025, please visit the website and submit a questionnaire sometime in 2025.
We keep only a small list of those who are committed to getting a puppy from our program THAT year.
Ideally this list has a perfect home for each expected or newborn puppy. If it does not, we will continue getting to know prospective families until each puppy has found their perfect match.
You can find information on available puppies on the Current Litter Page, where there will be a list of puppies born by litter and how many of those puppies are still looking for their new family. Current Litters are moved from the Planned Breeding page to the Current Litter page once the breeding has taken place, this is before the pregnancy is confirmed via ultrasound.
If there isn’t a current litter please try the Planned Breedings page. This page holds our planned breedings for that year. This page is updated in January of each year with the plans for THAT year and it is updated as conditions unfold. A planned litter may not result in puppies - not every breeding occurs as planned, and sometimes females do not conceive despite best efforts.
If you follow our page on Facebook please be aware that it is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Service to sell or advertise for sale any animal (unless you are a ”brick and mortar“ pet store or farm) so when we post puppies on Facebook, we avoid mentioning if a puppy is available or spoken for.
Please do not ask us on Facebook if a puppy is available, instead visit the Current Litter Page.
